POOR FILTRATION MAINTENANCE WILL LEAD TO DEGRADED FUEL SYSTEM PERFORMANCE AND CAN DESTROY FUEL PUMP(S)
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Which fuel filter element should I choose? Please see the information under the "Fitment and Specifications" tab for information that will help in your decision.
My filter does not specify whether it is 88mm or 128mm. How do I know which one I have? Our old "F-10" filter is now named "88mm" filter. All 128mm filter bodies are marked with the length.
How do I clean the stainless steel element? Ultrasonic cleaning at your local hydraulic supply store is the best method. DO NOT use a brush on the mesh element, as it will damage the mesh.
The anti-static SSD has stainless mesh...can I clean and reuse it? No. The stainless mesh is a support structure. The microglass and SSD elements are underneath the stainless mesh and cannot be cleaned, since filtered particles become embedded in the media, similar to cellulose.
Is it possible to interchange filter element types? As long as the element length is the same (88mm or 128mm), the element types may be interchanged.
How long between filter element changes or cleaning? It depends completely on the application. These variables will improve service life of the filter element:
- Looser filtration (such as stainless steel)
- More filter surface area (such as 128mm elements)
- Less fuel processing (such as smaller primary pumps)
- High quality, non variable fuels such as barrel purchased race gas
On the other hand, these variables will diminish service life of the filter element:
- Tighter filtration (such as microglass SSD)
- Less filter surface area (such as the 88mm elements)
- HIgh fuel processing (running large and/or multiple pumps full time)
- Low quality, or variable fuel such as E85
